Translating Energy: What’s the deal with intuition and how does it work?
According to Merriam-Webster, intuition is “a) the power or faculty of attaining to direct knowledge or cognition without evident rational thought and inference” or “b) immediate apprehension or cognition.” Dictionary.com defines intuition as “direct perception of truth, fact, etc., independent of any reasoning process; immediate apprehension” and calls intuition “pure, untaught, non-inferential knowledge.”
This is a very lazy definition. It's defining intuition by what it's not, rather than what it is. And, it's incorrect.
For one, intuition can be taught (which is why I teach my intuition course). Everyone has the ability to become intuitive, you just need to tap into the energetic information in the universe. I have dedicated my life to teaching intuitive training to people like you. Second, intuitive training doesn’t pop up out of nowhere like jury summons in the mail. Like any skill, you can call upon that inner voice whenever you need it, it just takes a bit of practice. Clairvoyance isn’t just tied to spirituality. Far from being “irrational” or “without cognition,” intuition plays a crucial role in our cognitive process, combining past experiences, energetic information, and pattern recognition to inform decision-making.
The world needed a new definition, so I created one. Intuition is energetic information that has been translated through your physical body up to your conscious, rational mind, with the intention of allowing you to live your most expanded life.
Energetic Information
Where is all this "energetic information" coming from? We are living in a sea of it. Imagine the universe is a giant spider web, where every part is connected by tiny threads. When you touch one of the threads, the whole web moves. This is how energy and information in the universe are connected.
Our brain is constantly syphering through this energetic information in the universe, prioritizing the data that we need to survive. Even before the information is coming into the conscious, rational mind, your brain is still translating energy in the world around you, influencing your thoughts and emotions in the subconscious.
If you were to be tapped into all of the energetic information in the universe, your brain would be totally overwhelmed. To become intuitive, you must filter out all the noise to select the intuitive information that is most valuable for you. Your subconscious is allowing you to be receptive to the things that help you live your most expansive life. The next step of intuitive training is to translate this information into your conscious, rational brain. It would be of no help if all that helpful information never reached your awareness. For it to become intuitive, you need to be made aware of it.
Intuition isn’t the unknown, but the known. Albert Einstein is famously quoted (1) as saying, “The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant.” According to Psychology Today (2), Einstein once told a friend, “All great achievements of science must start from intuitive knowledge.”
So, how do we translate that energy into the conscious, rational brain? Clairvoyance is authentically received as an inner knowing. Once you find yourself too deep in the mind, the information stops. My students who take my intuition course that struggle with translating energy are generally highly perceptive, but receive a lot of other cues too – like anxiety, fear, worry, and doubt. They may have even had intuitive experiences in the past, but struggle with understanding their patterns of translating. They know they receive energetic information, but they don't trust how it translates. This makes it difficult to know what is and isn't clairvoyance in the moment.
Anxiety vs. Intuition
Before taking my intuition course, my student Vita struggled with translating energy and differentiating between anxiety and intuition. Vita worked as a doctor in Canada, and with her background in science, she was extremely logical—that is, until it came to flying.
“It comes from when I was thirteen years old and was in a very turbulent storm. My whole extended family was on the plane. I distinctly remember lightning hitting the plane, the plane going red, and then the plane dropping. I remember my mom reaching over and grabbing my dad’s hand over the aisle seat, and I lost it,” Vita recalls. “…Since then, I’ve had a very irrational fear of flying. Despite knowing that there are countless flights, that the risk of something happening is infinitesimally small, it was still difficult for me.”
Vita had a traumatic experience when she was flying, so her anxiety was triggering her internal alarm system whenever she was on a plane. Her body was essentially saying, “MAYDAY MAYDAY planes are bad! We need to be prepared for danger because bad things happen on planes!” Ultimately, anxiety is there to protect you, but the thoughts that ran through Vita’s head were responses to fear that were not based in reality. So, when we have that inner voice in our head predicting that the plane is going to crash, how do we know whether or not our gut is telling us to skip the flight?
Through my intuition course, Vita was able to become intuitive by distinguishing her unique patterns of translating energy. She did this by first understanding her patterns of anxiety and then comparing the two. For her, intuition was a lighter color. It was as a calm, clear inner voice in her head, resembling a definitive answer. Anxiety lodged itself in her chest and generated aggressive, repetitive thoughts.
Recognizing Patterns
Every person translates intuition a little differently. At a physics conference in 1922, Einstein described how he would translate intuitive information through images. Only after receiving the intuitive information would Einstein use symbols and words to describe the solutions (3). While Einstein is a genius, this way of translating is not unique to him. Many people translate information into images, first. But others translate completely differently. Often people get very caught up in the ways of translating and forget that it's just that, a way. It's your unique intuitive training method of observing the energetic information in the world and translating it into conscious, rational thought to become intuitive. Einstein had patterns of translating information through images. In Vita's case, a calm, clear inner voice. How one translates information is unique to the individual, but no one way is better than another and we all have spiritual gifts.
“Fleur helped me recognize the difference between clairvoyance and anxiety. And she does it in a way—there’s scientific understanding to it. Fleur speaks to the nervous system and the sympathetic and the parasympathetic nervous system, and all of this stuff, especially to a physician, is bread and butter for me. Using that as her launch point to teach about intuition, especially with her neuroscience background, was something that I could lean into. She bridges the gap between science and the metaphysical world.”
“Turbulence was very hard. And I used to pray, every time, and I still do, but with a lesser amount of fear. With flying, Fleur helped me realize that this is not gut or intuition, this is anxiety. Again, you have this conscious, rational, logical side of you that knows better, but sometimes your body is not reacting the way your brain wants to. Fleur helped keep that in alignment; my body with my brain.”
That inner voice predicting break-ins, shark encounters, or falling from great heights—all instances of anxiety trying to masquerade as clairvoyance. Patterns of translating intuition are distinctly individual. Some people have a “gut feeling,” others feel it in their chest or hands. If you are a highly visual, creative person, you may see intuition in an image. Recognizing your patterns of anxiety are equally important. So, in those moments when you are feeling the rapid heartbeat and tension in your muscles, you can go, “Ah! Intuition, this is not.”
Through taking my intuition course, Vita discovered that her intuition manifested in a calm, quiet inner voice. Even when one of her patients would have a major medical complication, Vita would have a confident inner knowing that they would be ok. By discovering her patterns of translating energy, she was able to identify when her spiritual gifts were telling her that she was making the right decision for her patients. This intuitive information helped her to work calmly under pressure and stick to a treatment plan, or change if needed.
Intuitive Training
The topic of intuitive training has been steadily gaining popularity in the news. Intuition can be used when we are making decisions about where we should move or who we should date, but it is also a valuable skill in business (4). Remember that your clairvoyance originates from an energetic sea of information, and that you can become intuitive about all sorts of things, including business. Your subconscious mind has to pre-select for it, however. You have to believe deep down that this intuitive information is important. Therefore, it's no wonder that Einstein’s insights included solutions to equations, and Vita's insights included treatment for her patients.
Take it from Oprah (5), “Learning to trust your instincts, using your intuitive sense of what’s best for you, is paramount for any lasting success. I’ve trusted the still, small voice of intuition my entire life. And the only time I’ve made mistakes is when I didn’t listen.”
Intuitive Tools
So how does intuitive training work when we are using tools? Many of my students who take my intuition course come from a world of spirituality and love using tools such as tarot cards, numerology, gene keys, and human design. Sometimes, they believe it's the tools (like tarot cards) that are doing the "reading,” but that couldn't be further from the truth. Let's discuss why using tools is just another form of translating energetic information into conscious rational thought.
Before diving in, let's discuss these tools to know what they do and how they are used:
Tarot cards are a powerful and ancient tool used for divination and can be used to gain insight into various spiritual gifts you possess. A deck consists of seventy-eight tarot cards, divided into the Major Arcana, which includes twenty-two cards representing significant life events, spiritual gifts and lessons, and the Minor Arcana, compromising of fifty-six cards that deal with day-to-day experiences and challenges (6). When we draw and interpret tarot cards in a reading, we’re not just relying on the symbolic meanings, but also our intuitive responses to the symbols. This process allows us to access deeper layers to our psyche, fostering a greater understanding of our spirituality and ourselves. Shannon Knight, a licensed psychotherapist, uses tarot cards as other psychologists have used Rorschach inkblots. She uses spirituality and tarot cards to help her clients better understand themselves and unlock memories on her popular podcast, The Tarot Diagnosis (7).
Numerology is the belief that numbers, particularly those associated with a person’s birthdate and name, hold special vibrational meanings and can influence a person’s personality, destiny, and life events. This practice often involves calculating key numbers, such as the Life Path Number, Destiny Number, and Soul Urge Number. Similar to tarot cards, numerology also encourages spirituality and self-awareness. Numerology has ancient origins and can be tracked back to 1200 BCE (8). Math and mysticism have often been linked. Every day, there are scientists at NASA using numerology to crack the unknown secrets of the universe. Pythagoras was the first to express the importance of numerology in spirituality, science, and philosophy (9), and believed that the number ten was perfect and held the key to information of the universe.
Human Design is a spiritual technique developed by Ra Uru Hu (Alan Robert Krakower) in 1987 to help offer insight into your spiritual gifts. Human design is a mix of astrology, the I Ching, Kabbalah, the Hindu-Brahmin chakra, and other forms of spirituality (10). It utilizes a BodyGraph chart generated from one’s birth data and I Ching hexagrams. Central to Human Design are the four main types (Generators, Projectors, Manifestors, and Reflectors) and their corresponding decision-making strategies, known as authorities (11).
Developed by Richard Rudd, the Gene Keys system blends elements of astrology, the I Ching, Human Design, and modern genetics to help an individual discover their spiritual gifts and higher purpose (12). Gene Keys is a tool that centers around sixty-four archetypes, each corresponding to specific gene keys, and explores their expression through three levels: the Shadow (limiting aspects), the Gift (potential for growth), and the Siddhi (highest potential) (13).
These modalities each offer unique frameworks for understanding spiritual gifts and translating energy, but in my intuition course, I teach you how you are actually the power behind their use. Any great reader of the tarot will tell you that they threw away the booklet a long time ago. Instead, they use their intuitive training to look at the card and speak to what jumps out at them.
What's happening here? Intuitively they already have the answer, but they need the card to help translate this energetic information of the universe into their conscious rational mind. That's why you could draw the same card for two situations and you would experience that card very differently. It's not the card that is doing the reading, it's you! The card is simply the vessel, helping you translate better. They are all external tools that allow you to make a conscious rational conclusion of the energetic information you already knew.
Recognizing patterns in translating intuitive information can vary widely from person to person. Maybe you’re like Einstein, and you experience intuitive information through vivid images or symbols. Or perhaps you’re like Vita, and you hear a calm inner voice. Some people sense intuition as a strong emotional, physical feeling. Others notice patterns or synchronicities in their daily life. Just like no two people learn in the same way, no two people can become intuitive in the same way. Your unique patterns of translating are influenced by your life experiences, sensory preferences, and cognitive styles. Once you understand your individual pattern, you can start to effectively decode and apply the energetic information of the universe.
